TikTok ad sizes and specs (2026)
Make TikTok ads as 9:16 vertical video, at least 540 x 960 pixels, in MP4 or MOV, up to 500 MB and 10 minutes long. TikTok also takes 1:1 and 16:9, but recommends vertical. To run still images in the TikTok feed, use a carousel ad: 2 to 35 JPG or PNG images at 720 x 1280, 640 x 640 or 1200 x 628, with music. These are TikTok’s Ads Manager numbers as of September 2026.
In-Feed video ads
| Spec | Standard In-Feed ad | Spark Ad |
|---|---|---|
| Shape | 9:16 vertical (recommended), 1:1 or 16:9 | Whatever the post already is |
| Smallest size | 540 x 960 (9:16), 640 x 640 (1:1), 960 x 540 (16:9) | No limit |
| File types | MP4, MOV, MPEG, 3GP, AVI | MP4 or MOV |
| File size | 500 MB or less | No limit |
| Length | Up to 10 minutes | Up to 10 minutes |
| Bitrate | 516 kbps or more | No limit |
| Caption | White, fixed font; no links, @ or hashtags | Taken from the post; @, emoji and hashtags allowed |
| Profile photo | 98 x 98, JPG or PNG, under 50 KB | The account’s own photo |
| Account name | One line, up to 20 characters (10 in Chinese, Japanese or Korean) | The account’s own name |
TikTok lists minimums, not a recommended export size. 1080 x 1920 is 9:16 at double the minimum on each side, and is a safe default. Captions show up to four lines, and TikTok hides the rest behind "See more". TikTok’s reservation ad page suggests keeping captions within 100 characters (50 in Chinese, Japanese or Korean) so nothing gets hidden.
Still images in the TikTok feed: carousel ads
TikTok describes its Carousel Ad as the format for images in the TikTok feed, for brands that have no video or want to reuse assets from other platforms. The spec page was updated in September 2026:
- 2 to 35 images per ad. A Video Shopping Ads carousel, built from a product catalog, shows 2 to 20.
- JPG or PNG at 720 x 1280 (vertical), 640 x 640 (square) or 1200 x 628 (horizontal). TikTok suggests 100 KB or less per image.
- Music is required and loops. Upload an MP3 of at least 2 seconds and up to 10 MB, or pick from TikTok’s Commercial Music Library.
- One caption, one call-to-action button and, for a standard carousel, one link for every image.
- Placement is automatic or TikTok only. Automatic placement leaves out TikTok Ad Network and Global App Bundle traffic.
We tested how hard the 100 KB suggestion is. Of 29 photos from the examples on our site, saved as 720 x 1280 JPGs, only 9 came in under 100 KB at quality 80, and 18 at quality 70. Expect to export at quality 70 or lower, then check the label and fine edges at full size. Music from the Commercial Music Library does not play on TikTok Ad Network, so a carousel meant to run there as well needs your own uploaded track.
Safe zones
TikTok publishes its In-Feed safe zones as downloadable overlay files on the spec page, one standard set and one right-to-left set for Arabic, each with a version for ads that use anchors. It gives no pixel numbers in the text. It says the safe zone depends on the video shape, the caption length and any add-ons, and that the longer the caption, the smaller the safe zone. Third-party guides quote pixel margins that disagree with each other, so lay TikTok’s own overlay over your frame and check the ad preview before launch. TikTok warns that the preview is not device-specific and can differ slightly from the live ad.
For the profile photo, TikTok asks you to keep the key element inside the center 66 x 66 pixels of the 98 x 98 image, because the corners get cropped.
Creative rules that catch product ads
TikTok’s reservation ad spec page lists notes for creatives. Several catch AI product images in particular:
- Avoid white or transparent backgrounds. TikTok’s account name, caption and music line are white and may not be readable on a white frame. A packshot made for a store page on #FFFFFF needs a tinted ground or a scene before it runs on TikTok.
- Every video needs sound, and carousels need music.
- No watermarks, including TikTok’s own. Export a clean file from your editor instead of downloading a posted video.
- The ad must not mimic TikTok’s own interface.
- The video should be in the local language of the market, or local ad review may reject it.
- You need licenses for any fonts, emoji and creative tools you use.
TikTok also has rules on labeling realistic AI content. They are covered in do you need to label AI images in ads.
TikTok Ad Network sizes
TikTok Ad Network, called TikTok Pangle until its rename, shows your ads inside other companies’ apps. It takes single images as well as video. In the US, only its interstitial (full screen between app screens) and rewarded formats are available.
| Asset | Sizes | Files | Largest file |
|---|---|---|---|
| Video, up to 10 minutes | 720 x 1280, 1280 x 720, 720 x 720 | MP4, MOV, MPEG, AVI | 500 MB |
| Image | 720 x 1280, 1200 x 628, 640 x 640 | JPG, PNG | 100 MB |
| Banner-only image | 600 x 500, 640 x 200, 640 x 100 | JPG, PNG | 100 MB |
| Carousel, up to 50 images | 720 x 1280, 1200 x 628, 640 x 640 | JPG, PNG | 100 MB |
TikTok recommends supplying every size. To fit your assets into its different formats, it says it may fill empty space in a placement with a colored background or a blur effect.
Getting TikTok sizes from AI renders
- Nano Banana 2 and Nano Banana Pro render 9:16 at 768 x 1376 (1K) or 1536 x 2752 (2K). Scale the 2K render down to 1080 wide and trim a few pixels to reach exactly 1080 x 1920.
- GPT Image 2.5 takes custom sizes in multiples of 16. 1080 is not a multiple of 16, so ask for 1152 x 2048 and scale down to 1080 x 1920. It can render 720 x 1280 for a carousel card directly.
- A carousel of stills is the fastest way to use a set of AI photos on TikTok. Moving video made from those stills needs a separate video model, and every frame needs the same product checks as a still.
How to adapt one campaign to every ad size covers making the TikTok, Meta and banner versions from one set of renders, and what creative fatigue is covers how often to replace them.
Where TikTok’s own pages differ
- Names. TikTok’s help pages now say "TikTok Ad Network (formerly TikTok Pangle)", so older guides and settings may use either name.
- Length and bitrate. The auction In-Feed page (June 2026) allows videos up to 10 minutes at 516 kbps or more. The page for reservation buys such as Reach and Frequency (July 2025) still lists 5 to 60 seconds, 9 to 15 recommended, and 2,500 kbps. Follow the page for the buying type you use.
- Spark Ads. The auction page lists no length limit for Spark Ads, while the Spark Ads page sets a 10-minute maximum for videos that can be sparked.
Questions people also ask
- What is the best size for a TikTok ad?
- TikTok recommends 9:16 vertical and sets 540 x 960 as the smallest size it takes. Export at 1080 x 1920, double the minimum on each side, as MP4 or MOV under 500 MB.
- Can I reuse my Instagram Reel as a TikTok ad?
- The shape matches, since both are 9:16. Export a clean file from your editor instead of downloading the posted reel, because TikTok does not allow watermarks, and check the frame against TikTok’s own safe zone overlay, which differs from Meta’s.
- Do TikTok ads need sound?
- TikTok’s reservation ad spec page says all video creatives must have sound, and its carousel spec requires music. Use music you have rights to: a track from TikTok’s Commercial Music Library or your own upload.
Where Overs fits
Overs makes still photos, not video, and does not upload to TikTok Ads Manager. For a video ad, it can write a text prompt per photo for a video model such as Seedance or Veo, which you then run yourself.
Free for 40 photos a month. The AI that makes the photos is billed separately, on your own key, with no markup from Overs.
