Pinterest pin and ad sizes (2026)
Make image pins and ads 2:3 at 1000 x 1500 pixels, as PNG or JPEG under 20 MB. Pinterest says pins taller than 2:3 may get cut off in the feed. Carousel ads take 2 to 5 images at 1:1 or 2:3. For full-screen video and Idea ads, use 9:16 at 1080 x 1920. Pinterest also lays a faint gray layer over pins with white backgrounds, so pure white shows slightly gray. Checked September 2026.
Sizes by format
| Format | Shape | Size or count | Files and limits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard image pin or ad | 2:3 | 1000 x 1500 | PNG or JPEG; 20 MB on desktop, 32 MB in the app |
| Shopping ad | Same as a standard image or video ad | Same | Same |
| Carousel ad | 1:1 or 2:3 | 2 to 5 images (2 to 10 when pulled from a catalog for sales) | PNG or JPEG, 20 MB each |
| Collections ad | Main image 1:1 or 2:3; smaller images all 1:1 or all 2:3 | 1 main image plus up to 24 smaller ones (3 or more recommended) | PNG or JPEG, 10 MB |
| Standard width video | 1:1, 2:3, 4:5 or 9:16 recommended | 4 seconds to 15 minutes; 6 to 15 seconds recommended for ads | MP4, MOV or M4V; up to 2 GB |
| Max width video (ads only) | No taller than 1:1 | 4 seconds to 15 minutes | MP4, MOV or M4V; up to 2 GB |
| Idea ad | 9:16 | 1080 x 1920; video up to 5 minutes | 100 MB on the web, 2 GB in the app |
| Showcase and quiz ads | 2:3 | 1000 x 1500 | Up to 32 MB |
Pinterest warns that pins with an aspect ratio greater than 2:3 might get cut off in people’s feeds. At 1000 pixels wide, that means anything taller than 1500 pixels. A long infographic pin at 1000 x 2100 runs that risk, so split it into a carousel or cut it down to 2:3. Videos can be anywhere from 1.91:1 wide to 1:2 tall.
Why white backgrounds look gray on Pinterest
Pinterest adds a faint layer on top of image pins that have white or black backgrounds, to separate them from the app background. It applies to organic pins and every image ad type, but not to video.
| Your background | Light mode | Dark mode | What people see |
|---|---|---|---|
| White or near white | Black layer at 4% opacity | No change | #FFFFFF shows as about #F5F5F5 in light mode |
| Black or near black | No change | White layer at 10% opacity | #000000 shows as about #1A1A1A in dark mode |
For a packshot made for a store page, where the ground is pure #FFFFFF, the pin will read as very light gray in the feed. If your brand look depends on crisp white, give the Pinterest version a colored or textured ground instead, or accept the gray. Color profile and file type
Pinterest converts every uploaded image to an 8-bit RGB JPEG before it becomes a pin or an ad. It recommends uploading PNG files in sRGB to lose the least quality, and says custom color profiles are not supported and can shift colors slightly. Before upload, convert files saved in other color spaces, such as Adobe RGB or Display P3, to sRGB, and check your brand color with an eyedropper afterward. How to keep brand colors accurate in AI images covers the checks.
Safe zones
Pinterest publishes safe zones in pixels for full-screen formats. Its pages do not name the frame size, but they sit next to its 1080 x 1920 recommendation, so we worked the safe box out on that frame.
| Format | Top | Bottom | Left | Right | Safe box |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Organic image and video pins | 270 px | 790 px | 65 px | 195 px | 820 x 860 |
| Idea ads | 270 px | 440 px | 65 px | 195 px | 820 x 1210 |
The right margin is three times the left, so the middle of the safe box sits 65 px left of the middle of the frame. Center headlines on the safe box, not on the frame. Showcase and quiz ads use a different system: Pinterest gives a safe area of 342 x 430 pixels for Showcase and 342 x 376 for quiz ads, and says the bottom 80 pixels of a Showcase card will be covered. Text overlay on both is limited to 10 words.
Titles and descriptions
- Title: up to 100 characters. Depending on the device, only the first 40 may show in the feed, or the first 30 in Chinese, Japanese, Korean or Arabic.
- Description: up to 800 characters. It does not show in the home feed or search feed, and does not show on ads viewed up close, but Pinterest uses it to decide who sees the pin.
- Text box on organic pins: up to 250 characters.
- Quiz ads: questions up to 96 characters, answers up to 48.
Getting Pinterest sizes from AI renders
- GPT Image 2.5 has a standard portrait size of 1024 x 1536, which is exactly 2:3. Scale it down to 1000 x 1500 and nothing needs trimming.
- Nano Banana 2 and Nano Banana Pro render 2:3 at 848 x 1264 (1K) or 1696 x 2528 (2K). The 1K file is smaller than 1000 x 1500, so enlarge it or render the keeper again at 2K. Google’s 2:3 is a fraction of a percent off exact, so trim a few pixels after scaling.
- For a carousel, render every card at the same shape so the swipe does not jump between square and tall.
Check the product in each card after resizing, using the AI image QA checklist. How to adapt one campaign to every ad size shows how the 2:3 pin fits into a full size set.
Questions people also ask
- What size should a Pinterest pin be?
- 1000 x 1500 pixels, a 2:3 ratio, for image pins and standard image ads. For a full-screen video pin or an Idea ad, use 9:16 at 1080 x 1920.
- Can I post square pins?
- Yes. Carousel and collections ads take 1:1 images, and Pinterest lists 1:1 among its recommended video shapes. A square pin takes up less height in the feed than a 2:3 pin of the same width, so use 2:3 for single images.
- Should I upload PNG or JPEG to Pinterest?
- Pinterest recommends PNG in sRGB. It converts every upload to an 8-bit RGB JPEG itself, so a PNG gets compressed once, by Pinterest, instead of twice. Keep each file under 20 MB, or 10 MB for collections ads.
Where Overs fits
Overs makes still photos and exports them as files. It does not post pins or run Pinterest ads, so the 2:3 crop and the upload happen in your own tools.
