What is Google Pomelli?

Checked 5 min read

Short answer

Pomelli is a free marketing tool from Google Labs, made with Google DeepMind. It reads your website into a "Business DNA" (your tone of voice, fonts, colors and images), then makes on-brand social posts, product photoshoots, short animations, brand books and simple websites. It launched on October 28, 2025, works in English for adults in more than 170 countries, and Google caps use at "several hundred" generations (September 2026).

You can also send finished images and videos to a connected Google Ads account or a professional Instagram account. Sending them to Google Ads does not launch a campaign; you still build and run the ad in Google Ads.

Where Pomelli is available

Pomelli launched in the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Google added India in February 2026, expanded to more than 170 countries and territories in March, and added the European Union, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Switzerland and the UK on April 21, 2026. It is in English only and for people 18 and over. A personal Gmail account always works; a Google Workspace account may need an admin to turn it on. Google notes that some features and image types vary by country.

How to make product photos in Pomelli

  1. Open Pomelli from Google Labs and sign in with a personal Google account.
  2. Enter your website address and let Pomelli build your Business DNA. Check the colors, fonts and images it picked before you make anything.
  3. Open Photoshoot, upload a clean, sharp photo of the product, and pick up to six templates, such as studio or lifestyle.
  4. Add your product page link to give Pomelli the product’s details.
  5. Refine a result by editing the prompt, or add a style reference image.
  6. Compare every image with the real product at full size: label text, logo, color and texture. Google’s own help center says the AI can change fine details like these.
  7. Download, and choose whether to add Pomelli’s optional visible watermark, which tells viewers the image was made with AI.

Step 6 is where most problems show up. Use the QA checklist for AI images before anything goes live.

What it costs, and the limits

Google says you can currently use Pomelli at no charge, and that users can create "several hundred" image and video generations, a cap it will update in its help center if it changes. You need only a Google account; there is no API key to set up.

  • English only, for users 18 and over.
  • Some websites will not load into Business DNA, such as sites that block bots with a CAPTCHA.
  • It will not make images from requests that could show children.
  • Animations come in 9:16 only; Instagram posts need a 4:5 or 1:1 image.
  • It is labeled an early experiment and runs as a standalone web app.

Use of Pomelli falls under Google’s Terms of Service and its Generative AI Prohibited Use Policy. Google’s terms say it won’t claim ownership of content you generate. The Pomelli FAQ does not say how uploaded photos are used or kept, so ask Google before you upload products that are not public yet.

Where Pomelli is strong, and where it stops

For a small brand, Pomelli is hard to beat on cost: it is free, needs no setup beyond a Google account, and comes from the company that makes the image model it runs on. The Business DNA saves you writing your brand rules by hand, and Photoshoot gives several studio and lifestyle versions of one product from a single upload.

Plan for three limits. A cap of several hundred generations fits a small brand’s monthly posts better than a catalog of hundreds of products. The output is aimed at social posts and Google Ads. And Google itself warns that fine product details can change, so labels and logos need a check on every image. Business DNA covers part of what a written visual DNA holds, such as colors and fonts, drafted for you from your site.

Questions people also ask

Is Pomelli free?
Yes, for now. Google says you can use Pomelli at no charge and that users can create several hundred image and video generations. Google says it will post any change to that cap in the Pomelli help center.
Who owns the images Pomelli makes?
Pomelli is covered by Google’s Terms of Service, which say Google won’t claim ownership of content you generate, and by Google’s Generative AI Prohibited Use Policy. For the wider legal picture, see who owns AI-generated images.
Does Pomelli work with a Google Workspace account?
It can, but your Google admin may need to turn it on first. Pomelli always works with a personal @gmail.com account.
Does Pomelli run my ads for me?
No. You can send images and videos to a connected Google Ads account or a professional Instagram account, but sharing to Google Ads does not launch a campaign. You build and run the ad in Google Ads.

Where Overs fits

Like Pomelli, Overs reads a brand from its website. It then plans a mixed set (store page, feed ads, editorial, hero, banner, billboard), casts one model for worn products, and lets you approve, change or reject each photo. It is not free to run the way Pomelli is. The plan is free for 40 photos a month, and the AI costs a few cents a photo on your own key from OpenRouter, a service that bills many AI models through one account.

Free for 40 photos a month. The AI that makes the photos is billed separately, on your own key, with no markup from Overs.
